Spinning Reels have traditionally been thought of as the best choice for novice anglers and while it is true that they are an excellent option for beginners, there are many high-end models available today that are equally suitable for experienced anglers. If you use a variety of fishing tackle to fish for many different species and you like the simple design, a spinning reel is an excellent choice that will serve you well. Many professional anglers use spinning reels for competition fishing, so there is no reason to think they are in any way inferior to other types of reels. Whether they are the best option for you can depend on the kind of fishing you enjoy, the kind of tackle you use most often and your personal preferences.

What are the Primary Benefits of a Spinning Reel?
In our experience, freshwater and saltwater spinning reels are less prone to jamming and tangling than baitcasting reels, which makes them a suitable choice when what you really want is a hassle-free, relaxing day’s fishing. As mentioned above, they can also be used to fish for a wide variety of species: we have high-end spinning reels for sale with a braid capacity of up to 100 lbs. Some high-end models cost well over $1,000, but you can use Zip Pay or other Buy Now Pay Later options to spread the cost of a new reel if you wish.
How Easy Is It to Maintain a Spinning Reel?
It is important to disassemble and clean all the components of your reels from time to time if you want them to provide you with many years of service. As spinning fishing reels are generally less complicated than baitcasting reels in design, they take less time to disassemble, clean and reassemble, making them easier to maintain. If you want to spend more time fishing and less time maintaining your equipment, a spinning rod and reel combo is an option that is well worth considering.
Why Does My Line Tangle in a Spinning Reel?
Although they are less prone to tangled lines than other reel designs, some anglers still have issues when using them. There are a few reasons you may be experiencing tangles with your spinning reels, all of which are relatively easy to resolve:
- Line Memory – If you are using a monofilament line and leave it sitting on the spool for a long time, it may develop curls that lead to an increased chance of tangling. It is not generally possible to eliminate this issue, so we recommend re-spooling with a new line.
- Overfilled Spool – Line spill and tangles are the usual results of overfilling. Fill your spool to the lip and no further.
- Oversized Line – This will cause similar problems to overfilling, so be sure to check the specs of your spinning reel combo before loading the spool.
- Wind Knots – This will cause a hard to untangle knot when casting a braided fishing line. Loose loops often create it. It is best to ensure your braid is tight before winding the handle of the reel and avoid using the auto-bail function. Sometimes rod choice can play a part in braid line wind knots.
What Is a Spin Casting Reel?
Spin casting reels sit on top of the rod, like a bait caster and can be cranked similarly but they still cast easily, with little friction, like conventional spinning fishing reels.
