One of our best selling saltwater surface lures here at the Fishing Tackle Shop is the Halco Roosta Popper saltwater range of fishing lures. Why? The prices are amazing, they look fantastic, and most importantly, they work. A combination of these three elements sees the Roosta command prime position as one of our best selling popper lure ranges sold at our store.
This sales trend has stood firm since we first incorporated the Roosta series into our stock range many years ago.
There are a few sizes in the Roosta range for sale, by far the Halco Roosta Popper 195 Haymaker GT Popper lure is the best seller in the series. Explicitly designed for heavy popper fishing applications principally to handle the punishment dished out from fish such as Giant Trevally GT, huge Mackerel, oversize Tuna and Kingfish.
While the 195 Maker is 195mm in length to cover your largest of fish species in the ocean, we also sell the full range of other saltwater sized models. The next size down is the 160 model, which is our next best seller for GT, tuna and kingfish.
Moving away from the larger class of fish, we sell the 135 and the 105 sizes which are both of an all-purpose scale in size class for saltwater fishing. You’ll use the 135 or 105 sizes from either the boat, rocks or shores for a broader type of fish class. Some of those species include Aussie salmon, kingfish, bonito and tailor. In some instances and colours, you could also try your hand at barra on poppers with the smaller 105mm – 135mm sizes for sale.

With such a diverse range of sizes for sale, it only makes sense that we take a lot of the guesswork away for you. Hence, we have written this handy buying guide which will detail a little on each size we sell. We’ll also touch a little on our best selling colours.
We’re going to list them in order from largest to smallest size since the haymaker is our best seller out of the whole series, that is where we will start our buyer’s guide.
Halco Roosta Popper 195 Haymaker

Target Species List – The 195 Haymaker Popper is a GT Popper. If you hunt huge Giant trevally, then this is one popper that should be in your lure kit. The 195 model is also an exceptional choice for anglers chasing huge Spanish mackerel, and large tuna of all types.
If you are ready to start catching some powerful fish, then the best method for retrieval of the Halco haymaker popper 195 is to point the rod tip directly at the lure and retrieve any slack line then firmly sweep the rod tip in a downward motion approximately 45 degrees. Pause the lure for a second, then, if you have not yet had an explosive hit from a fish, repeat the process as necessary.

Target Species List - The Irregularly shaped head on the 160 size is for maximum blooping and popping action without the need for excessive effort. It’s an excellent choice for anglers of all levels but especially beginners who are targeting GT, tuna, long nose emperor, tuna, red bass, kingfish, coral trout, mackerel and other pelagic fish of a larger calibre.

Target Species List – The 135mm size model is a fantastic universal size popper for saltwater fishing. You can still get GT, coral trout, tuna and other larger pelagics on them, but, they are generally best suited to fish of a smaller calibre like school mackerel, tailor, kingfish, bonito, queenfish, Australian salmon, cobia and other fish not quite as immense in size. Barramundi in cases also take a liking to surface lures, and the 135mm model presents as a great option, especially in golden colours.

Target Species List – At 105mm, this is where you truly have a crossover between an offshore and inshore popper. Suitable for boat, rock and shore applications the 105mm size is the ideal size for mackerel, smaller tuna species, queenfish, barramundi, mangrove jack, salmon, bonito, kingfish, tailor and a string of others.
Best Selling Colors
There is always going to be much chatter about what the best colours are, that’s the nature of an avid angler. However, sales statistics tell us that our best selling colours for offshore saltwater and working off rock platforms are: H50 Pilchard, H53 White Redhead, H79 Stripey, H71 Yellowfin and H69 Bonito. For those heading north, you could include H73 Fusilier in that mix.
Inshore, we find our better selling colours are H51 Chrome gold black back and H70 King brown.
In summary, do not limit your self to just these colours, if you have the budget to allow for a mixed purchase. These best Halco Roosta popper colours are only the colours that attract the attention of our customer base. We suggest where possible purchasing a wide variety of colours as specific colours may work well on one day but not the next, depending on specific scenarios and conditions.
