Shimano Nasci Reel - Spin Fishing Reels
I don’t think there is another spin reel that could get a higher recommendation for the novice and intermediate angler than the Shimano Nasci Fishing Reel.
The Nasci packs some serious technology for this price bracket. The fact is these sorts of inclusions are what you might expect at twice the price. Hagane gears, X-Ship, Coreprotect and an AR-C spool complete the balanced G-Free Body. That’s serious punch, precision, and durability.
The new Shimano Nasci reel has the best features of the Symetre, Aernos and Technium spin reels rolled into one with additional features rolled off from higher-end models. What’s more, it is a very fine-looking reel as well.
For the traditionalist, the AR-C spool will handle plenty of mono should you wish to fish live or flesh baits. Spool up either reel with braid, however, and you can tackle some serious weight and aggression using all sorts of lures. Whatever your choice of line, you can be assured that the casting manners of the Nasci, thanks to the AR-C spool, are brilliant.
The sizes listed below allow anglers to be fully equipped for the inshore waters, both fresh and saltwater. The Shimano Nasci 3000, 2500 or 1000 size reel are all designed primarily for light fishing styles so for those chasing bream around the racks, flathead on the flats, trout in the streams, bass in the creeks, (you get the picture). Use the 4000 to cast slices for Salmon from the beach. Try the 5000 from the rocks. You will have more than enough power to drop baits for snapper and land them.

Shimano Nasci Review of Sizes Buying Guide
If you need to know more about our Nasci reel sizes for sale, then you’ll be pleased to learn we have written a quick recommendation on each size below to assist you in making the right purchase choice. We sell sizes from 1000 through to 5000. So please take a look at our review of sizes below and should you have any questions don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Shimano Nasci 1000 Reel
The 1000 size is a brilliant reel allowing anglers to get into finesse techniques with quality inclusions at a low price. Finesse kit is usually priced at a premium for the quality. Ideal for light to an ultra-light class of fishing in lakes and rivers the 1000 size typically pairs well with graphite rods up to 7ft in length rated anywhere from 1-4kg.
A Nasci 1000 Reel will cover all of your freshwater fishing applications like Bass and Trout but provide a brilliant feel for casting light soft plastics at the racks for Bream or the weed beds for Flathead in the saltwater scene.
Shimano Nasci 2500 Reel
For those wanting to chase bigger fish, the 2500 or (3000 as detailed below) provide plenty of max drag power at 9kg respectively as well as very generous braid capacities.
Look to the 2500 for pegging hard bodies at the elusive but hard fighting big flathead or yellowbelly perch. Shimano 2500 Nasci reels provide a brilliant near all-round option for lakes and rivers or anything inshore.
We recommend matching to a rod with a line rating anywhere between 2-6kg. Graphite rods between 6ft to 7ft 6-inches perform brilliantly with a 2500 reel, and it is the 2500 size that stands as our best selling size for most inshore fishing styles.
Shimano Nasci 3000 Reel
Apart from holding a little extra line capacity, the 3000 model has a compact body so closely resembles the 2500 size. So, as such, the same principle applies for the 3000 as it does for 2500 in terms of our rod recommendations and fishing styles.
Shimano Nasci 4000 Reel
The Shimano Nasci 4000 sized reel makes such a versatile sized spinning reel. You can do so much with this size. From light surf fishing for whiting and dart to light spinning off the rocks for salmon or tailor to heavier inshore fishing for barra or cod. You could also target pan size snapper off the reefs offshore from a boat. This size reel is a perfect all-rounder to cover many fishing styles.
The fishing rod you choose, however, will depend on what application you wish to fish. The 4000 size reel will typically match up with 9ft shore spin rods, 6-7ft barra spin rods, graphite style snapper rods and light graphite surf rods rated to around the 5-10kg mark in all rod classes.
Shimano Nasci 5000 Reel
Like the 4000, the 5000 compact shares a near, if not identical physical size. The main difference will be that the line capacity is slightly higher for the 5000 size. The compact 5000C also has a quick ratio, seeing you well placed for some serious jigging, and casting metal surface slices at pelagic species.
The beauty of these larger sized Nasci reels is that using them against Bream and Whiting around the estuaries is far from overkill. They are light, sensitive and will cast surprisingly light plastics very effectively when balanced with the perfect rod.
Your choice between purchasing the 5000 or 4000 will come down to speed and spool. Both reels offer a whopping 11kg of drag and have plenty of grunt. If you want to hit the sports action and jig the blue water near shore, the 5000 size will give you this opportunity. To keep it light, yet still dominate much of the inshore grounds from Aussie Salmon from the beach, to Barra in the North, try the 4000.
As for fishing rod choice, Refer to our recommendations on the 4000 size.
