Penn Slammer IV Reels have hit shelves replacing their predecessor Slammer 3. It's clear from what we've seen so far, this new edition will be great for anyone who needs a reel of choice when they're on whatever saltwater type of fishing excursion there may be: inshore or offshore grounds with game fish in between! The word is out that the Slammer 4 has indeed exceeded all expectations.
The Penn Slammer IV features many of the technologies you have come to love on the Slammer III, like IPX waterproof Seal and CNC Gear technology. However, a few extra ball bearings are now included (now 8), plus a hydrophobic line roller bearing for improved performance and water resistance. Then there has been a rotor weight reduction by approximately 10-15% in most models too.
The CNC Gear technology we mentioned is still an inclusion. The brass system is engineered to the standards of being perfectly functional, profoundly strong and well able to handle the extreme loads exerted when engaging a hefty drag pressure. Stainless bearings support these CNC gears for silky smooth operation and brilliant crank load distribution.
IPX6 Waterproof sealing is still one of the biggest selling features of the Penn Slammer 4 Fishing Reel. This is an independent rating that confirms your Penn will handle spray from the boat from all angles, spray from the beach and rocks and even the occasional full submersion.
The Sealed Penn Slammer IV drag system with Dura-Drag is an enormous feature. It's what they have in the game models and it allows for incredible pressures like you wouldn't believe! The 2500 has an astonishing 9.1Kg, making it the sort of reel that will dominate the insure grounds, tackling even Mulloway with ease. By the time you get to the 10500, you are baiting up for the like of Yellowfin Tuna, GT's, Sailfish and a host of other bluewater game.

Fishing Applications and Fishing Rod Suggestion Guide
We have categorized the Penn Slammer 4 Reels into a few separate categories from medium to extra large
SMALL-MEDIUM SIZE REEL Models: 2500, 3500, 4500, 5500 - Suitable for medium-heavy inshore applications and light-medium offshore fishing . Fish them on a 10-12ft light surf rod for whiting, dart and more. Or use them on a short boat rod for snapper and other reef fish or on a light jigging rod. Most sizes will also suit an 7-9ft general purpose spin rod. High speed options exist in the 2500 and 4500 size for blistering lures like metal slugs through the water column.
LARGE SIZE REEL Models: 6500, 7500 – Best suited to a 10-15ft surf rod or a heavy boat rod. Suitable for rock, surf and boat fishing. We also have a high speed model (6500HS) ideal for spinning lures.
EXTRA LARGE SIZE Models: 8500, 10,500 – Ideally suited to 12ft+ size beach rods and extra heavy boat rods for bottom bashing and jigging. Best suited for beach and boat fishing. A high speed model is also available as the 8500HS model ideal for spinning with lures and retrieving your line quicker.
Benefits
- IPX6 Sealed body and spool design protects critical components from water ingress. Will protect against splashing whilst placed in the holders on your boat and the spray from surf and rocks. Will also handle short dunking.
- The Dura Drag is brilliant at take-off, removing all hesitation. This is the system Penn have been using in their offshore game reels and now with reduced minimum drag it gives you a reel with really nice progression.
- CNC Gear technology provides all brass gears, engineered to within microns. They’re super tuff and incredibly smooth so they can handle the massive loads that will be created by the incredible drag strengths.
- The oversize handle is brilliant for powerful cranking. It comes fitted with an Aluminium handle on all models other than 2500 but an EVA version is also supplied with all models (2500 only has EVA).
- Drag strengths are phenomenal. With 20lb in the 2500 you can tackle mulloway quite comfortably with the smallest reel in the range.
