Penn Fierce IV Reel (Spin or Live Liner Fierce 4)
The Penn Fierce Reel has been a massive seller for the Penn brand. Now on its 4th incarnation, the features of this versatile reel continue to improve. The latest refinements have enhanced the Fierce performance even further, yet the entry-level price point remains.
Firstly, the range is excellent. At the beginning of the series is the size 2500, covering all light class fishing which will include lake and river through to the big 8000, which you can cast in anger from the ocean rocks, beach and near-shore.
Tackle everything from trout, bass and perch to mangrove jacks, mulloway and tuna. Spool capacities are generous. Also, with nearly 14kg of max drag in size 8000, fish like certain species of tuna and kingfish are a reachable target.
The Penn Fierce IV reel, for sale now, has seen cosmetic improvements, including the classy ported, superline aluminium spool. The Penn Fierce 4 reel includes four stainless steel ball bearings and Penn’s infamous HT-100 drag washers, adding further power, smoothness and endurance to the drag system. A techno-balanced rotor delivers a far more balanced, smooth retrieve, and an Instant anti-reverse system gives confidence, especially come time to set the hooks. The full metal body and side plate ensure rigidity for precise gear alignment under load.
Features such as the heavy-duty aluminium bail wire make the Fierce 4 an ideal choice for those anglers that can be rough on their kit. It’s an excellent feature for anglers who frequent the rocks, sea walls and breakwaters, where heavy impacts are likely.
Given the accessible price point, the Penn fierce 4 reel is ideal for an angler looking for an affordable go-to slogger. You can consider purchasing a couple of reels to cover several of your saltwater fishing applications at this price.
Look no further than the Penn Fierce 4 reel now for sale here at the fishing tackle shop for strength, power and endurance. This reel looks good, feels good and fishes even better!

Penn Fierce IV Reel Buying Guide
Small Sizes
Penn Fierce, 2500 or 3000 size fishing reels, are ideally suited to inshore fishing. Such places as lakes and rivers are a safe bet.
We suggest matching the 2500-size reel to any rod graphite or fibreglass with a line rating of around 2-5kg; usually, this will be in the vicinity of about 7ft in length. For the size 3000, we suggest matching it to a 6-7ft rod with a line rating of 4kg plus.
Medium Sizes
The Penn Fierce 4000 reel and Fierce 4000LL make terrific heavy inshore fishing reels to target barra, mulloway and other hard-fighting fish inshore. The Penn Fierce 5000 reel has you covered in much the same way with more line capacity.
You can also use either size 4000 or 5000 for light rock, beach fishing or light offshore reef fishing.
For matching rods, we recommend pairing the 4000 or 5000 up to around a 7-8ft fishing rod with a line rating of 6kg+ for general inshore fishing or a 6-7ft boat rod with a line rating of 6kg+ for light offshore work.
If using off the beach, you may use a reel this size range on a light surf rod around 10-12ft in length with a line rating of approximately 4-8kg. Of course, this is only a guide, and you may have individual opinions.
Large Sizes
Penn Fierce 6000 reel and Penn Fierce, 6000LL Live Liner reel, are sized for those planning to fish heavily from rock platforms, beaches or out on a boat offshore. The Penn Fierce 8000 reel or 8000LL Live Liner reel is ideal for the same, just with a bit of extra line capacity capability.
If utilising one of these reels from the rocks, we suggest matching it up with a fishing rod between 8-10ft in length. From the beach, we recommend a 10-14ft beach rod. Lastly, we suggest matching with a 6-7ft boat rod for anglers fishing offshore on a boat.
Line ratings for either of the three applications mentioned above will depend on how heavy you wish to fish. Although, look for a rod with a line rating of around 10kgs or more to match the Fierce 6000 or 8000 model.
Benefits
- The full metal body and side plate provide excellent protection as well as keeping gears in perfect mesh while under the big loads of massive fish.
- The Techno-balanced rotor delivers a smooth and even wind, ideal for cranking at high speed, and for providing an even line lay.
- The HT-100 carbon fibre drag is incredibly resilient and stable. Under testing it can handle a continued run of 100 miles under maximum pull without being compromised. The HT-100 drag provides you access to a much larger class of fish across the reel sizes.
- Line management is stable and reliable with the superline spool and heavy-duty aluminium bail wire. The superline spool also allows you to spool braid directly to the spindle without the need for backing line.
Countless anglers use the Penn Fierce Reel as their go-to workhorse. The Penn Fierce 4 for sale now is bound to enjoy the same popularity among anglers on a budget who refuse to compromise on strength and durability.
