HALCO LURES - BUYERS GUIDE
So, here at Fishing Tackle Shop we realise that not all angers are experts and many of you may reach this page and enter a state of paralysis and perhaps start asking yourself questions such as Which lure should i buy? What is that lure good for? where should I use it? when should I use it? and how should I use it? We’ll that’s where we come in. We have taken the time to create the below buyers guide to assist you “our customer” purchase the correct lure which will suit the situations and fishing styles that you choose to fish.
Halco Metal Spinning Lures – Are basically a chromed metal slug that is often tossed and retrieved at high speeds, there is no real skill involved in this, it’s a simple lure to use and often is used by anglers on rock platforms, beaches and even off the boat to target surface to sub surface fish species such as Australian salmon, tailor, bonito and kingfish only to name a few prime examples. Spinning lures can be cast as well as trolled.
We sell a range of Halco metal lures including the ever popular twisty and streaker varieties. Metal spinning lures vary in weights and we often find that 40 grams is our bestselling size. Why this is our most popular size is basically due to it being the most versatile weight in the range. It’s much easier to cast compared to the lighter options and they are not too big meaning the door is open to targeting a vast variety of fish species from bait fish to table fish. One should also note that just because the 40 grams size is our best seller doesn’t necessarily mean that is the one and only size you should purchase and use, in fact we suggest purchasing a range, sometimes the fish are feeding on smaller profile baitfish and will only take a smaller lure and sometimes there might be some big kings busting off the heads and you need a heavier lure to reach the school. So, our advice is that if you can afford it then stock up on a selection of Halco spinning lures in a good range of styles, sizes and colours.
Halco Surface Lures – Those that love to fish surface style fishing lures will absolutely love the range of Halco poppers, Stickbaits and crawlers that we have for sale. We stock a range to suit bass and bream anglers through to hardcore tuna and GT anglers and all that fits between. Surface lures offer a lot of excitement as you can see the explosive fish strikes when they engulf your lure right before your eyes, depending on which style you choose they work by chugging popping blooping or crawling across the water’s surface. The action is generally imparted to the lure by a wind and rip action of the rod tip or by proving a direct cast and retrieve.
If you’re a saltwater angler that fishes from a boat offshore or from rock platforms where species are a little bigger than your average table fish we have you covered with our range of Halco Roosta Poppers for sale from 105mm through to a blistering 195mm size. The average saltwater angler will choose the 105mm size or the 135mm size to cover targeting a large array of common saltwater fish such as Australian salmon, tailor bonito and rat kingfish and the angler after extreme sportfish such as Tuna, Giant Trevally or giant size kingfish will look towards or 160mm and 195mm Haymaker.
Knocking it back a few pegs we have a range of smaller Halco surface lures for sale in the vicinity of 36-60mm size that will suit saltwater or freshwater fishing styles that of which involve lakes, estuaries, dams etc. These smaller style Halco Lures are often favoured among anglers that target bream, bass, whiting and perch. Darker coloured surface lures are a good option if you are targeting fish at night, particularly Australian bass.
Halco Vibration Baits – If you are into game fishing then our best sellers are the Halco max and giant trembler. A favourite for targeting some of Australia’s most prized game fish including tuna and marlin these lures emit impressive vibration that cannot be matched. Whilst the target market for this range of lures is the boat fisherman on the troll Halco do suggest that the 130 max can prove deadly as a casting lure from the shore. Whilst this style of lure is a favourite for use across the entire Australian coastline they are also highly sort after as the preferred lure of choice along the coast of California USA when the bluefin tuna season is on.
Halco Diving Lures – Diving lures are versatile, they can be cast off the shore or trolled behind the back of your boat. We see the likes of the 120mm size laser pro as one of our biggest sellers for barramundi, particularly in the golden colour styles. The 190mm size Laser pro is also a popular seller but mostly for those that fish offshore targeting tuna, wahoo, dorado, mackerel and a range of other bluewater species. Our biggest selling colours in the 190mm size are Pilchard, Red White and Bonito so if you are not sure what colour to purchase, grab at least one of those three.
A brief about Halco Lures – Hal Cooper was the pioneer of Halco Tackle which was born in 1950 in Western Australia. However, it wasn’t until 1980 that things really started to take off with Neil Patrick purchasing the company and excelling the company to a new level via creation of a much more expanded range of lures both plastic and wooden. Halco now has other brands under its belt such as RMG and Tilsan and has become a world recognised award winning name. A brand which prides its self on innovation and quality for an affordable price. It’s no wonder why Halco Lures are among our biggest selling lure brand.
