Daiwa Size Guide for Light – Medium Class Reels
For those of you who are confused about what all the numbers mean in fishing reels we here at fishing tackle shop have made this quick little guide to give you a basic understanding to assist you when purchasing your next small-med sized Daiwa fishing reel.
1000 size – Starting at the smallest end of town, the 1000 size Daiwa fishing reel is the baby size class in terms of Daiwa reel size. You can also include the Daiwa 2004 size (on their old sizing scale) in this baby class. Perfect for real finesse fishing style for the freshwater lakes and rivers as well as in the salt. The 1000 size reel is popular amongst anglers that fish light for species such as bream, whiting and trout and is usually ideal for line classes of 1-2kg in monofilament or 2-8lb in braided fishing line. In terms of rod choice generally we find most anglers choose to buy a rod rated around 1-4kg and in a length of 6-7ft 6 inches.
2000 Size – Offers basically the same characters as a 1000 size reel but with the added benefit of extra line capacity or the ability to fish slightly heavier. Still perfect for lakes and rivers in both fresh and salt run a Daiwa 2000 reel on a 6-7ft rod with a line rating around 2-5kg for optimal performance. Fill the reel with 4-6lb mono or 5-10lb braid and target all your favourites like trout, bream, Australian bass, flathead, luderick and perch.
2500 Size. This is one of our biggest selling sizes. Daiwa 2500 reels hold more line, are generally easier to cast, and offer versatility. The 2500 is a finesse legend in lakes, rivers creeks and estuaries matching well with a 6ft through to 7ft 6inch rod sizes rated around 2-6kg and loaded up with 5-8lb mono or 5-10lb braid to target a very large range of both freshwater and salwater fish species.
3000 Size Daiwa reels make the ideal reel for those anglers that fish inshore dams, lakes and bays in situations that command a little extra line capacity or where slightly heavier line class is needed. Perfect for running 3-5kg monofilament or 6-14lb braided line class. Chase mangrove jack, yellowbelly, snapper, king george whiting, flathead and more on the 3000.
4000 Size reels can be borderline class for a small reel though they are nudging more along the medium size range. 4000 size reels are truly the best size real for heavier inshore fishing such as fishing for barramundi, mulloway, huge flathead, cod and make an ideal choice for anglers heading off to do some light offshore reef fishing. Perfect for a 6-9ft rated rod rated anywhere around the 3-8kg mark. One thing to mention though, a Daiwa 4000 spinning reel will also be an excellent choice for the light surf angler on an 8-11ft rod rated to around 5kg where target species are dart, whiting, bream and flathead to name a few.
