Chasebaits Panic Prawn: Surface Action That Triggers Instincts

Have you ever seen a prawn launch itself out of the water, a desperate leap to escape the jaws of a hungry flathead? It's a scene that plays out daily in our estuaries, and it's exactly the kind of panicked flight the Chasebaits Panic Prawn Lure imitates. This isn't your average prawn imitation – it's a surface lure designed to trigger explosive surface strikes from even the most laid-back Aussie fish predators.

Forget those slow days waiting for a bite down deep in the water column. The Panic Prawn's erratic surface action and lifelike profile will have bream, whiting, flathead – heck, even those finicky mangrove jacks – competing for a taste. Twitch it through the snags, burn it across the flats, or wind it steady – this little prawn packs a serious punch.

Key Features:

  • Unique "Panic Action": The Panic Prawn doesn't just swim, it freaks out. Its darting, diving, and splashing action perfectly mimics a fleeing prawn, triggering those hardwired predatory instincts.
  • Topwater Action: As a dedicated surface lure, the Panic Prawn is designed to create visible disturbances on the water, potentially attracting the attention of nearby predatory fish.
  • Aussie Tough: Crafted with a durable, hard plastic body, the Panic Prawn is designed to withstand the rigours of most Australian fishing, including sharp teeth and rocky environments.
  • Premium Hooks: The Chasebaits Panic Prawn fishing lure is rigged and ready to cast with super-sharp, chemically sharp trebles. These hooks ensure solid hooksets and reduce the chance of losing fish
  • Prawn-Inspired Design: Sculpted to resemble the shape and proportions of prawns, aiming to present a familiar prey profile to predatory fish.
  • Optimised Weight Distribution: Carefully balanced, the lure will sit correctly on the water and produce the most effective action during retrieval.

Colours that Scream "Eat Me!":

From the natural "Native Prawn" to the eye-catching "Pink Devil," the Chasebaits Panic Prawn lure comes in various colours to tempt even the most discerning Aussie fish.

My personal favourites? (Ben Czulowski - FishingTackle Shop Owner) The "Native Prawn" and "Jelly Prawn". These two are so realistic that it's easy to see why fish will practically jump on this colour! These are the top two colours I'd recommend to our customers.

Size Options:

  • 70mm (6 grans): This smaller size is ideal for targeting bream, whiting, and other smaller estuary species. It's also a great choice for fishing in shallow water or when fish are feeding on smaller baitfish.
  • 95mm (11 grams): This larger size is perfect for targeting larger species like mangrove jacks, flathead, trevally, and even barramundi in northern Australia. It creates a bigger disturbance on the surface and is ideal for fishing in deeper water or when fish are feeding on larger prey.

Note: Price is for one lure only and pricing depends on the size you choose. Select the colour/size you require when ordering.

Where to Fish?

Estuaries

  • Flathead: Excels when worked slowly across sand flats.
  • Bream: The 70mm size is particularly effective around structure.
  • Whiting: Responsive to a faster retrieve in shallow water.

Freshwater

  • Australian Bass: Highly effective when worked around submerged timber.

Northern Waters

  • Barramundi: The 95mm Panic Prawn's size and action match perfectly with barra hunting instincts.
  • Mangrove Jack: The 95mm version's loud surface action draws aggressive strikes.

Mastering Panic Prawn Fishing Techniques:

As experts in the trade since 2021 (2005 online) and having fished countless different surface lures, here are actions that we suggest when fishing the Chasebaits Panic Prawn Lure:

The Subtle Skitter

A slow, steady retrieve with occasional twitches mimics a nervous prawn and is deadly on bream.

The Aggressive Walk

A fast, zigzag retrieval with sharp rod movements can trigger reaction strikes for active surface feeding predators like tailor or trevally.

The Pause and Pop

Around snags, cast, let it sit, then give it a sharp pop. This often triggers species like bass, bream and mangrove jack to hammer the lure.
